Does an ESA letter guarantee housing approval?

No. A document may provide information relevant to a request, but it cannot guarantee approval. A housing provider reviews the request under applicable law and the individual circumstances.

Do I need ESA registration in Georgia?

No. A private registration, certificate, vest, or ID card is not required for a Fair Housing Act accommodation request. Optional certificates, IDs, and year-round support-animal registration are private convenience products. They do not establish a disability-related need or guarantee a housing accommodation.

Can a housing provider ask for information?

When a disability and disability-related need are not apparent, HUD guidance says a housing provider may request reliable information. The specific request and response depend on the circumstances and applicable law.

Can an ESA live in housing with a no-pets policy?

A person may request a reasonable accommodation to an animal restriction. HUD describes assistance-animal accommodations as a possible exception to a no-pets policy, subject to applicable criteria and circumstances.

Can a landlord charge pet rent for an ESA in Georgia?

A tenant may request a reasonable accommodation to pet rent, fees, deposits, or other pet rules. If the animal is approved as an assistance animal, HUD says it is not a pet and pet fees or deposits generally do not apply. A letter alone does not automatically decide a request or guarantee reimbursement for charges already paid.

Can I ask to live with an ESA in a no-pet apartment?

A renter may request an accommodation to an animal restriction. The housing provider reviews the request under applicable law and the individual facts. No letter or registration guarantees approval.

Are support dog certificates or ID cards official?

Private certificates and ID cards are optional convenience items, not government credentials. They do not establish eligibility for housing accommodation or ADA public access.

Can an ESA go into restaurants or stores?

An ESA does not receive ADA public-access rights simply because it provides emotional support or has a letter or registration. The ADA service-animal definition is different.

Can cats be assistance animals in housing?

Housing assistance-animal requests are not limited to dogs. The ADA public-access definition of a service animal, by contrast, generally covers dogs trained to perform disability-related tasks.

How do I start a Georgia evaluation?

Use the Georgia-branded application to request an ESA Letter Housing Evaluation, Multiple Animal ESA Letter Evaluation, or psychiatric service dog letter evaluation. A Georgia-licensed mental health professional reviews each case individually. Applying does not guarantee documentation.
